2018 Swim Team Handbook

Welcome to Community Swim Club Swim Team!!!

The coaching staff is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your children throughout the summer season. Our focus is to provide a fun environment that will encourage stroke development and a love for the sport of swimming.

We have put together these guidelines for the season. Please read it thoroughly prior to the Parent Meeting, Thursday, June 7. If you should have any questions, feel free to email Amanda Kovach at with any questions.

Swimmers Ages: 5-17 (must be able to swim 1 full length of the pool to participate)

Registration will open May 1, 2018 and will remain open until June 1, 2018. Payment must be received by June 1st. Swimmers who haven't paid will not be able to practice until payment is received. Families must be General Members of Community Swim Club for their children to be eligible to swim.

Swim Team is $80 per child.  For your second child, it is an additional $80 (or $160 in total for the first two children). There is no incremental cost above the $160 for three or more children.

Swim Team Practices

Practice will begin Monday 6/4. It will run each weekday evening from 6–7 p.m., for all ages, through Thursday, 6/7. We will begin our morning practices on Monday 6/11 for swimmers age 13 and up from 8-9 a.m., 10-12y from 9:00-10 a.m. and swimmers 9 and under from 10-10:30 a.m.

Please make sure your swimmer(s) come to as many practices as possible. The more they practice, the stronger and better they will become and feel a camaraderie with the team.

Time Trials

We will conduct one set of Time Trials in order to help us create line-ups for the regular meets and invitation–only meets. Attendance is HIGHLY encouraged.  As your swimmer participate in meets, these line-ups will change based upon their splits. It is very important that your swimmer is there and prepared for the initial time trial. The times recorded, along with any individual split times at the meets, will be used together to help coaches create the best line-ups for meets. Mark your calendars for June 9. (13+ (8-9am), 10-12y (9am-9:45am), 9- (9:45am-10:30am)

We are part of the NHSSL Gold Swim League (North Hills Summer Swimming League)

Meet Preparation

Once you have completed the registration process please register for the meets your child will be able to attend throughout the summer.

  • YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE EVENT BY NOON FOUR DAYS PRIOR TO EACH MEET. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Register for a Tuesday meet by noon on Friday and register for a Thursday meet by noon on Sunday. If you do not register on time, you will not be included in the line-up.
  • It is very important for the coaches to know in advance if your swimmer will or will not be able to attend a meet. Since a large portion of our meets are comprised of relays (4 swimmers), any last minute change in meet participation greatly impacts the swimmers in attendance. The coaching staff would love to be able to maintain a focus on progressing and encouraging our swimmers instead of constantly adapting the line-up to last minute changes.

Inclement Weather

In the case of inclement weather and a meet would be delayed or canceled, all meet notifications will be sent out via REMIND by way of text messaging. It is beneficial to download the app for ease of use.

Meet Day Mayhem

Our goal on meet day is to get the children excited and ready to swim fast. However, we desperately need the help of all parents to ensure that enthusiasm does not turn into chaos. Here is how meet day will run:

  • When your children arrive, they need to immediately report to the team area. It is very important for us to keep the children in one area so we can make sure they don’t miss an event. If you want to get something for your child to eat, bring it to them in the TEAM AREA. Also, make sure they have their goggles and towel.
  • Each swimmer needs to get their event numbers written on their hand.
  • Team Stretch
  • Warm-up
  • Team Cheer (all team members need to be present)
  • Meet Begins (all regular meets begin promptly at 6:35pm)

The meets run VERY QUICKLY. We need your help to keep your swimmers in the team area. If you see your child outside of the TEAM AREA, please direct them back. It is impossible for the coaches to find the swimmers when they are spread out all over the pool property. Of course, if they have to use the restroom, they may, but they should not be in the showers or hanging out in the bathrooms.

Parent Volunteers

  • We need a lot of volunteers to help with each swim meet, we truly could not have a swim meet without them.
  • There are many different opportunities, please discuss with the Swim Team Coordinator, Amanda Kovach, if you are wondering what you can do.
  • You can sign up to volunteer when you register your swimmer. Each family is responsible for volunteering for two credits.
  • Most volunteers working the meet will need to attend a short volunteer meeting scheduled approximately 30-45 minutes prior to the meet start time.
  • If you are interested in learning a job, please let Amanda know, and we can have you shadow at a meet
  • We expect each family to volunteer two times or two credits throughout the season. All volunteer positions are on a first come basis. Only one shadow/extra position is allowed per family out of their two needed credits.

Team Gear

  • Suits- We ask that all swimmers wear a black suit.  We will be using the Sporti Solid Piped Thin Strap suit in black/royal blue available from ( Please order your suits as soon as possible to ensure delivery before the first meet. The team swim suit is not required to participate in Swim Team but it must be black in color. You are also more than welcome to wear suits from past years .
  • Swim Caps- All swimmers must wear a CSC swim cap to show uniformity in the pool. Caps are royal blue with white monogramming. All swimmers will be given one latex cap at the first meet.  Latex free caps (silicone) will be available for $10 purchase. Please place order at time of registration.
  • Apparel- There will be several options of team apparel for you to purchase for your swimmer(s) and your family.  This year, we are happy to offer tank tops, t-shirts, and hoodies!  You may purchase these items during registration. All orders are due by 5/20 in order to ensure delivery before the first swim meet.

Additional Assistance Available

The goal of the coaching staff is to use our practice time efficiently so each swimmer can progress as much as possible during our summer season. However, if your child is struggling with certain parts of their swimming, the coaching staff is available to conduct private lessons. These lessons are scheduled by each individual coach, so please feel free to ask if you are interested.

If you have any questions or comments regarding Swim Team or specific problems, please contact the Swim Team Coordinator, Amanda Kovach at Please do not contact the coaches directly. If an issue comes up during a meet, please follow this same rule. We have asked our coaches to focus on the meet and refer all comments and questions to Amanda or CSC Board President, Ryan DeMotte. We will do our best to listen and make the right decision for our entire team at all times.

We look forward to a wonderful summer season! See you in the pool!!
